Richard's Power Porridge

It will take me longer to write this than it will for you to make the porridge, but I will have finished typing before you finish eating.  Karma.

The Gubins

  • 75g Rolled Oats
  • 25g Chia Seeds
  • 25g Linseeds
  • 25g Sunflower Seeds
  • 50g Banana Chips
  • 75g Mixed Dried Fruit
  • 2-3g Ground Cinnamon

Serves 2 daddy bears or 4 baby bears

The Doings

  1. Place everything in a blitzer and hit the switch, stop the machine, give the container a good shake and then blitz again.  You should now have a rough powdery mix.
  2. Decant into a suitable container add hot water, stir, allow to cool and eat; done.

Not the best-looking food in the world, but not many porridges are.

The Extras

  • You can add more fruit to make a paste which can be eaten without extra water.  Good for making your own gels and ‘on the go’ snacks.
  • Swap cinnamon for ginger and cocoa nibs.
  • Add chopped figs or apricots for a sweeter taste.
  • You can add pumpkin seeds, but I find they clash with cinnamon, but everybody’s tastes are different.

The Knowledge

So why the blitzing?  Well, by blitzing the ingredients you are giving your digestive system a head start, the fibre in the oats, seeds and fruit has been split allowing your internal enzymes to get started as soon as the porridge hits your stomach.
